Noah showed up on friday in his golden brown Chevrolet toy chest with stacks of sticks for us. Some new models, some hot mid lengths and some really really nice color works. Each one I pulled from the bag seemed to further melt my face from an intoxicating combination of stoke and disbelief. Here's a step by step process. The Mustachio is working on a hot new batch of his creations for us here at Mitch's. We have four Sunbeam models coming that are 5'10, 6', 6'4", and a 6'6" as well as three RON (regler ol' noserider) models in 9'2", 9'4", and 9'6" and also three Nowski models at 9'2", 9'4" and 9'7". Springfield skate designs!

Marge came by the other day and dropped off some of the new designs Homie and his pals have been coming up with out in Springfield. Seems the folks over at NHS and Santa Cruz have been helping them work out the kinks in between crusty burgers and donut breaks. Bart has a pro model as well as Homer's two custom templates, these are equipped with OJ 3's and Bullet trucks. I just watched some footage of Bart ripping main street on you tube! Cowabunga!

And this....well this one just cut to the core.

I'm particularly excited about this posting because this here bonkers selection of new Kookbox and Christenson loggies is genuinely incredible. I feel like i should bounce my rent check, sell my car, and live in the bushes just to get my feets on one of these things. After weighing the consequences, those darn pesky rational thoughts seem to overtake my old familiar youthful squablings and notions to make bad choices and I've now fully realized I can't have one of these. The thing is though.....you can! Dennis is a fantastic local shaper who has earned his keep among the surfing community by building killer logs, eggs, and thrusters, charging heaving Tables and being on overall really good guy!

Monster swells, shark sightings, huge power failures, giant sewage spills....it's been a pretty lively month in SD county and aside from the millions of gallons of doo doo swirling off the coast everything else has made life around here a lot more interesting and exciting in my opinion. What was also really exciting was our Sale and Charity event we had over the Labor Day weekend, the bands ripped and we stoked a ton of people out with CHEAP wetsuits and gear and the most raddest of all was that we raised a substantial amount of money to donate to Fresh Start Surgical Gifts which is a San Diego based charity that helps kids in the county who need corrective surgeries that couldn't afford to get them without the support of this organization. So to all those who came to our sale and bought a raffle ticket and to all of our sponsors who donated raffle prizes and food to help make this a success we applaud you! Thank you very much. With that said, our board selection continues transform and become more and more stellar. We've got some new Kookbox single fin discs shaped by Manny Mandala as well as some more new Christenson CC Sliders, and Cafe Racers plus some hot looking Takayamas. My usual complacency has taken hold again and I've been camping on the blog for a month?!?!. A big Sorry to whoever has been out there waiting for a new shop update and been getting shut down like the 405. For real this time Kenny Bloggins in back on a revival tour and will be posting many dates. I've been sleeping on the blog again......Damn! It's been over a month since my last update and since we have gotten a new RVCA display with a grip of new threads to go with it along with a full new order of Hippy Tree gear and a bunch of new Birdwell Britches! Also......The Takayama folks dropped off five new hand-shaped EPS longboards that are lighter than a bag of popcorn! These are seriously light for those who chose to ride lengthy boards but want uber-high performance. I weighed them all and they are all just shy or at the 10lb. mark!!!! They will be living in La Jolla so if you have any questions or you want to see them in real life drop on by down there. And yes.....The Kookboxes are on the way, we should be seeing about thirty of them trickling in over the next couple months so keep that eye peeler handy. There are still some crafty souls out there who build boards from start to finish without another set of hands touching any single stick during it's production. Scott Raymond Henry is one of these cats, he has been doing what he does quietly and consistently for four decades now! He builds boards with a keen appreciation and respect for seventies/eighties design and aesthetic. If you like wings, channels, lightning bolts, hot colors etc. these boards embody this chapter of surf design and culture. If you've ever surfed Pipes in Cardiff you've most likely crossed paths with Mr. Henry and his long hair, long limbs and long drawn out lines. If you like what you see here but have something you'd like to be built custom feel free to call him out in the water or come on down to the shop here in Solana and pick Henry's brain, he's got an immense amount of knowledge and respect for surf history and design theory. Scott has been lurking around the shop on Saturday afternoons for decades now as well, at first glance he might be mistaken for a street vagrant by his long wiry blonde hair, sun laden skin and tattered clothes, but don't be shy his appearance is only a testament to his Free Spirit and minimalist devotion to surfing and traveling as much as possible while subconsciously rebelling against the mass market media corporate consumerist spiral that devours most of our surf culture. -Bloggins-

With an abundance of moisture falling from the sky and a fear of sprouting a new felange or getting some unknown funktification from the suspect water quality, we here at the shop haven't been partaking in the surprisingly good surf that has been rolling in this past week. I was amazed to see how many people know better than to paddle out after a vicious rain these days. I went by all the keystone spots throughout the county on Sunday and Monday and I only saw a few lonely rubber men willing to gamble the fecal. Maybe we are evolving and becoming wiser, maybe no one can afford to get sick these days, or maybe the rewards sometimes don't outweigh the daunting prospect of contracting some gnarly hepatitis or staff that we've all heard about. Whatever it is, it sure was neat to see some really nice waves roll on through, un-ridden and un-abused. If your not rolling the dice with your health we hope you're finding something to fill your stoke quota with, I know we are. We built a ramp, got a bunch of new skateboards to surf around the town on and have been keeping the shop on the up and up with more and more killer contraptions, devices, literature, and fabric to keep you smiling through these torrential onslaughts. So this is how it went down. Plaintiff sees Defendant cutting his finger-nails blatantly on the Turtles steps while checking surf with his girlfriend. Disgusted, the Plaintiff can't believe her eyes and the ignorance of said defendant and decides to take aggressive action with a literary approach, placing above note on Defendant's car after he paddles out with is girlfriend.
Minutes later the Plaintiff paddles out with her boyfriend for some surf, cautiously avoiding the newly strewn humanoid debris on the stairs. Upon return to the car after a janky windblown session the above note had been placed on Plaintiffs boyfriend's car with a questionably spry rebuttal. Plaintiff believes the return napkin was orchestrated by said Defendant's girlfriend due to the feminine high school notebook style script. This makes plaintiff even more angry. To make matters more complicated the innocent by-standers (plantiff's boyfriend) truck can now be identified by the defendant and may certainly cause him an altercation of some sort if not an unjust scowl. (Who was in the wrong here? You Decide.)

WHAAAAT??? We're having our first ever sale event here at the shop on Feb 5th in the parking lot. Music, free hot dogs, super deals on clothes, wetsuits, and Tudor surfboards! Get right out of town!

I pulled away from my house Monday morning thinking I was strolling out for a mellow mid-morning, early weekday session. As I neared the startlingly crowded buzz of cardiff commotion stretching from the Reef to Swami's my hopes of getting some wide open sliders began to diminish quickly. I peered fearfully from the safety of the glass encasement of my car at lines ten deep of people waiting to rinse off at the shower and people clogging every parking lot entry and exit anxiously waiting to pounce on any legal place to rest their vehicle. Minding my own personal sense of well being and positivity I encouraged my self to not get frustrated and that the stoke would reveal itself if I calmly let it. As I crept into the swami's lot I snagged myself a parking slot first lap and so did Jim Swarthow. I was now becoming slightly re-assured by my internal self persuasions to stay optimistic.
With fifty guys out front we walked a tad north as we usually do. In search of something healthier than the crowded elbow bump screaming match mumbo that the Swami pack promotes we stroked out into the open stretches at Patches. We shared some ideas as to why the crowds were so thick and related it to the flaring sunshine and the warm temps that we have been waiting for since last year. With more insight we realized it was a holiday, and we aptly named in Martin Luther Ding day as we watched the drop-in parade down the way at Swami's. As the tide continued to back away the surf improved and within a half an hour the surf was putting on it's best show. A whole heck of a gosh darn lot of waves later and no more energy to expel I took one in and shuffled up to the rocks shaky legged and hungry as a spring grizzly. Looking out to sea as Jim catches one in and I smile and waggle my head in awe of how the day had unraveled.
As I have been reminded of so many times these past couple years I was once again taken aback by the power of perception and positivity and the doors it opens in this life. This day was just another subtle reminder that you can make anything what you want it to be and sometimes you can find yourself in complete bliss with just a little effort. Hope you made it through the holiday weekend without any dings and a smile on your face. Thanks for dropping by. -Bloggins-

Well.....ok we are or I suppose Kenny Bloggins is finally back into this blog business once again. The hiatus was a little suspect but this is a new year right? At least that's what somebody said the other day. Keep your eye's peeled for a more consistent and fun-filled blog from here on out. Things were really popping over the holidays around here even though it was raining like Seattle and we were wearing our snorkels. Thick steamers seem to be flying out the door lately and I can't keep the booties stocked quick enough. Hoods and gloves??!!?? Yep, we got em' so if your extremities are turning white and giving up on you we got some rubber for those lonely little limbs as well. As usual we have an array or new arrivals in the board room; Takayama In the Pinks, DT-2's, Beach Breaks, and Scorpions. Got a hot new batch of Kookbox Twin Pins shaped by Jeff McCallum as well as some longer models by Wayne Rich. And........we will be receiving a batch of Christenson shortboards any day now. That's right I said it, we will have some thrusters in the shop again for the first time in a long time. Our board room has had a face lift to accommodate all the wonderful surf craft that live here, and we have been working our tookus' off to try to make this place really nice inside and out.
